The Irony of Life: Choosing the Unconventional Path
Why Standing Out in a World of Trends Can Be the Most Rewarding Journey
The Irony of Life
When I was in school, I constantly felt like it was pointless. I didn’t want to be there because none of it seemed relevant at the time. Now, here I am, on the evening of October 30, 2024, working as a freelancer, and all I want is a consistent sleep schedule.
It goes against my values because I’ve always wanted to be exceptional. I believe trends are temporary. If you go with the flow, you either blend in, doing the same thing as everyone else, or you get lost in the crowd because, well, everyone is doing the same thing.
When you choose a different path, the risk of not being noticed is high—but the potential reward is even higher. If you’re the one to start a trend, people see your style as fresh and original. They follow, and you’re recognized for your uniqueness. You leave a legacy that trend-followers will never touch. That’s the path I’d rather take because it’s the most rewarding in the long run.
åa different approach, take this analogy for example. Focusing on Japanese cuisine and avoiding Chinese dishes because that's the trend at the moment, even it's against to what I believe in, I’ll still consider his ideas for this content creation journey / freelancing. I’m not sure about his deeper reasons for this focus—maybe it’s a 50% risk, maybe it’s about branding. Either way, I hope this path will pay off in the long run.
Still, I know I’ll always value my exceptionalism and will never fully embrace simply “following the wave.”
