Unihertz Jelly 2E Review: My Mini Smartphone Experience
Going Small With a Big Impact

Whoa, what a cute phone... ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
That's what most people say when they see me using my phone. 📱 They get really curious and want to see it for themselves. ◝(ᵔᗜᵔ)◜ When they borrow my phone and check if it's working properly, they're amazed. ૮꒰˶ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ˶꒱ა˖⁺‧₊˚ They're even more amazed when they see that the camera works perfectly fine.

"Elly, why did you buy this phone?"
Most people ask me about this phone. They're often curious how I manage to live with it. It's tiny, and the text is very small because I adjusted the settings to make everything even smaller in the phone's display. It can be quite difficult to use at times. It seems like people are amazed by the technology, but they wouldn't be able to handle using a phone like this themselves.
Here's why I prefer small phones over wide-screen ones:
Look around, you'll see people react differently to iPhones. Some might feel intimidated, while fans might be curious enough to borrow one and play around. However, with my phone, it's a different story. It's not just about wealth (like with iPhones for some). It's truly unique and grabs a lot more attention. This unique phone has sparked many conversations and definitely sets me apart from the crowd. It's a big reason why I feel like I stand out - not because I'm "not normal," but because I embrace something different.
Tiny Phone, Big Escape
In May 2023, while staying at my boarding house, I became frustrated with myself. I realized I spent 3-4 hours a day doomscrolling on my phone. It felt like a serious addiction, and I desperately wanted to stop, but it seemed incredibly difficult.
That afternoon, as I lay in bed mindlessly scrolling through my phone, I decided to take action. I figured downgrading my phone might help reduce my guilt and social media addiction. So, I spent over an hour researching and discovered a phone that seemed promising.
I came across a bunch of dumb phones, and let's just say they were so basic, using one would make you feel like you've regressed to the Stone Age. Thankfully, I spotted a Unihertz phone. This brand caters to a very specific niche, and all their phones are unique and interesting. Luckily, I'm a fan of quirky things!
Imagine my surprise when I saw their 3-inch screen phone. It was mind-blowing because it's actually a real, fully functional smartphone! Even though the dollar to peso conversion made it expensive, I ordered one from their online store. I was just so determined to try it out and see if it would help curb my phone addiction.
It took more than two months for the phone to arrive. While the slow PhilPost delivery definitely tested my patience (let's just say I wasn't thrilled!), the wait was absolutely worth it. I'm so happy to finally have my tiny phone in hand!
Presenting

The Unihertz Jelly 2E is a miniaturized smartphone aiming to be a digital detox solution. It packs the latest Android 12 operating system into an incredibly compact body measuring just 3.0 inches across. Despite its small size, it boasts a capable quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, 16-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras, and a 2000mAh battery. This phone caters to users seeking a break from bulky smartphones, prioritizing essential tasks, calls, texts, and basic web browsing in a minimalist and ultra-portable package.
I bought this phone for around 9,000 pesos, and even though it's very expensive, I'm still really happy with my purchase because honestly, it helps a lot with my phone addiction.
You can't walk while using it because the screen is too small to read comfortably while on the move. It's very uncomfortable to read things for extended periods. The battery life drains a bit faster than you might like. It's too small, making it difficult to focus on tasks that require close attention. You can't text for long conversations because the keyboard is too small (I sometimes do voice message instead). Jelly 2E is doing it job.
Being my greatest asset.
What else do I love? Unlike iPhones, this phone is unlikely to attract thieves. People might mistake it for a cheap, basic phone, making it a great choice for security-conscious users. In short, the Unihertz Jelly 2E is a hidden gem, perfect for cool and down-to-earth people.
My experience with the Unihertz Jelly 2E has been truly unique and incredibly positive. It perfectly achieved my goal of a digital detox. While I'm hoping the 2024 version packs a cooler design and more processing power, I'm definitely eyeing an e-ink screen phone for my next purchase. Here's to hoping Unihertz releases one soon!
