Conversation with Sir Auggie

Reflections on life, love, and meaningful advice

Sir Auggie is one of the teachers I’ve always admired, even though I never had the chance to be in his class. Yesterday, we had a meaningful conversation that started casually but eventually drifted into deeper thoughts about life and perspectives.

He shared an idea that really struck me: commencement speakers during graduation ceremonies shouldn’t always be famous personalities or those with high academic achievements. Instead, they could be newly graduated students — individuals whose age isn’t too far from the graduates themselves. His point was that these speakers bring a fresher, more relatable perspective. Graduates would be able to connect more deeply with someone who’s just been through what they’re about to experience.

That really made me reflect. Maybe what graduates need isn’t just admiration — but clarity. Hearing from someone who truly understands their current stage in life might offer insights that feel real, not just aspirational. It made me realize that sometimes, what’s critical can be more impactful than what’s admirable. Because let’s face it: while stories of great success are inspiring, they can also feel distant or too philosophical to be practical.

We also talked about love — yep, I asked for advice about someone I like. And Sir Auggie, being who he is, gave me a crazy idea: to just go for it and abruptly admit how I feel. I laughed and thought, “Oh wow, that’s bold… but it actually fits my personality.” Sure, it might make her freak out — but who knows what might happen? It was refreshing to hear something unexpected, honest, and fun.

What touched me most was how he acknowledged my accomplishments — not just academically, but creatively. He even said he was proud of me. That hit different. He values creativity over traditional academic success, and while I can’t remember every point he made, I remember agreeing with all of them.

Sir Auggie isn’t just someone with a wide perspective on life — he’s genuinely kind, open-minded, and refuses to settle for what’s “normal.” He’s the kind of person I’ll always enjoy talking to — someone who makes you think, laugh, and feel seen.
